CRÍTICAS
CD Halka, nominated for the Opera Award 2020
"The hero Jontek, a part taken here by the exciting young Brazilian tenor Matheus Pompeu, who sings with power and pathos and brings appealing colors to Jontek’s dumka/canzone."
Opera Magazine
HALKA BY MONIUSZKO
Chopin Festival and National Polish Opera, Warsaw
"For a change, Matheus Pompeu turned out to be Jontek – not only a beautiful voice, but also a fairly free technique, and in addition the only singer who tried to create a character. It was even visible, because he turned to his partners with gesticulation, but above all it was heard, because only he built emotional phrases. And as the only soloist he sang so clearly that one could guess that he knows and understands words."

"The unquestionable star of the evening was the Brazilian tenor Matheus Pompeu, who created Jontek. It is a fantastic, dramatic voice with a beautiful deep color, great technically and interpretably – the unforgettable aria “Szumią jodły na gór szczycie” in its performance has received a well-deserved long ovation."

"The Brazilian tenor Matheus Pompeu performed the part of Jontek in Italian-language “Halka” by Moniuszko. With pleasure you could listen to the beautiful phrasing and delight with the southern, sunny colour of the voice of the singer."

HALKA BY MONIUSZKO
Chopin Festival and National Polish Opera, Warsaw
"The Brazilian tenor has to his credit the beauty of accents, the interpretative impetus and control of phrasing that is fully revealed in “Fra gli abeti il vento geme” (“Szumią jodły na gór szczycie”), a touching aria permeated by the tearful sound of the oboe and received by the convinced applause of the audience."

RIGOLETTO IN GERMANY
Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Season 2019-2020
"A fascinating figure is the Brazilian tenor Matheus Pompeu as the Duke of Mantua. The voice fits perfectly: no trace of insecurity or weakness. Pompeu can draw from the full, he does not hold back. His tone is powerful, at times passionately overflowing, almost provocatively vital. After just over two hours, he can still gracefully and cheerfully say goodbye with his shockingly misplaced "La donna è mobile"."

"Pompeu lends his part vocal radiance and brilliance without ever having to force. At the same time, he embodies the equally power-conscious and pleasure-seeking facets of the Duke's personality with appropriate, also acting, slipperiness."

RIGOLETTO IN GERMANY
Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Season 2019-2020
"It starts with the Duke of Mantua, who leads the cast list. He was sung by a guest, the Brazilian Matheus Pompeu, with a radiant Italian timbre. His tenor was very agile, powerful in all registers. His agile acting was equally convincing, becoming the dynamic center of a not very respectable, careless and unscrupulous society. But he could also modulate his supposedly honest affection vocally quite credibly."

Luisa Miller
"Soon after came the pleasant surprise of Matheus Pompeu's first appearance, who lavished his brilliant, nuanced, in-tune and regulated voice of an authentic lyric tenor in Luisa Miller's great aria. (...) "Yes sir!". With these two words, emphatically said to himself, the elderly man sitting to the critic's right summarized and sentenced his approval of the heartfelt and well-sung “Che gelida manina” from Puccini's La Bohème that the Brazilian tenor had just interpreted. It was, in fact, one of the best moments of a concert where almost everything went right."

"Matheus Pompeu builds an Alfredo Germont where expressiveness, a remarkable interaction with his scene partners (especially Violetta), the beauty of timbre and a solid technique stand out."
La Traviata
"Pompeu made a secure, expressive, passionate Alfredo, attentive to details; his beautiful and educated voice projected majestically through the carioca theater; and he interacted very well with his Violetta."

"Matheus Pompeu is a pure lyric tenor, endowed with great ease in the high register with refined and characterful emission."
La Opinión de Málaga
"The Brazilian tenor Matheus Pompeu was another point of interest in the version defended by the orchestra alongside its principal conductor. Pompeu distinguished himself by a controlled and well-projected emission as demonstrated throughout the entire development of the page, shining for his sensitivity in the Fac me vere tecum."

La Traviata
"When staging La Traviata, it is natural that maximum attention is directed towards the soprano. The TMRJ production, however, found in the tenor from Minas Gerais, Matheus Pompeu, a high-level Alfredo Germont. His excellent lyric tenor voice, endowed with brilliance, freshness, crystalline diction, and impeccable intonation, filled the auditorium, displaying, through generous projection, all the beauty of his timbre. From the famous toast scene (Libiamo ne’ lieti calici) and the subsequent duet with the soprano (Un dì felice, eterea), Pompeu offered the audience an electrifying performance. His aria and cabaletta from the second act (De’ miei bollenti spiriti / Oh mio rimorso!… Oh infamia…) received vigorous interpretations. The artist also expressed very well the feelings experienced by the character throughout the opera: passion, amorous rapture, jealousy, anger, until reaching the final sadness. A performance to remember."

“Among the singers, Matheus Pompeu should certainly be mentioned, Halka's friend, who also keeps the name Jontek in the Italian version. The Brazilian tenor sings with masculine emphasis and passion, young, daring and a beautiful tone. (...) And Matheus Pompeu sings an agile and elegant Franek with Italian nuances.”
Michael-Moran.com
“Among the excellent soloists, I find tenor Matheus Pompeu, who plays Franek, quite prominent in this part both in intensity and in tuning. (...) Matheus Pompeu is appearing as a great tenor in Poland, and performed the psychologically demanding role of Corrado with a beautiful voice.”
