REVIEWS

"At the forefront of it all, the sensitive, competent, engaged, and inspired baton of SILVIO VIEGAS, who increasingly establishes himself in our musical environment as a most eminent orchestra conductor. With him, there was everything that is indispensable for IL TROVATORE: highly effective tempos and pauses, unwritten ritardandos and accelerandos with excellent results, valuing of certain sonorities (the brass right at the beginning, the woodwinds of utmost good taste at the beginning of the fourth act, the trumpets in "PER ME ORA FATALE," the succession of chords before MADRE, NON DORMI in the fourth act). SILVIO "lets sing," using another singer's colloquialism. A pleasure, a delight, an event, to see him there leading the OSTMRJ, in an opera of such magnitude." Il Trovatore Marcus Góes, movimento.com May 30, 2010 "The Brazilian maestro Silvio Viegas gave a romantic interpretation both in tempos and nuances... The orchestra was able to respond to the young conductor's enthusiasm... The choir, in turn, showed its already known mastery of the work and allowed itself to be seduced by its conductor's romantic approach, thus showing its most operatic side... The audience approved with their numerous applauses this first symphonic-choral concert of the 2012 season." Requiem - Mozart El País, Uruguay (Mozart Requiem) February 2012 "The Theatro Municipal Symphony Orchestra also paid him homage fittingly, beautifully interpreting Prokofiev's score, under the precise and sensitive baton of Silvio Viegas. Quite expressive and balanced, the orchestra competently responded to the maestro's baton and sang the music along with its conductor." Prokofieff Leonardo Marques, movimento.com 2012 "On the podium, Silvio Viegas imparted living rhythm and pulsation to the notes Verdi wrote in the score. He extracted glorious sonorities from the orchestral mass, without, however, allowing the orchestra for a moment to cover the singers, whom he made sure were very comfortable. This is the mark of someone who knows opera, a conductor specialized in the subject." Nabucco Sérgio Casoy, movimento.com July 26, 2011 "Silvio is the same precise, inspired, correct conductor who values essences, whether in Bach masses, Beethoven symphonies, the ballets he conducts, or in CARMEN or Verdi operas." Marcus Góes, movimento.com July 22, 2011 "...had excellent results in both performances, under the precise conduction of Sílvio Viegas. The maestro knew how to value many nuances of Gounod's score..." Gounod Leonardo Marques, movimento.com May 30, 2010 “Viegas knew how to extract a homogeneous and secure sound from the ensemble, intelligently and sensitively accompanied the singers, and performed, along with the musicians, a great job.” Il Trovatore - Belém Leonardo Marques, movimento.com September 2013 "...the orchestra played quite well under the incisive, intelligent baton of Silvio Viegas (Brazilian, début, current conductor of the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre)." Der Fliegende Holländer - Argentina Pablo Bardin, Buenos Aires Herald February 2014 "Meanwhile, the Theatro Municipal Symphony Orchestra delights in the composer's instrumental music, which brings oriental exoticism (with its augmented second intervals), bold harmony, and a foot firmly planted in late Romanticism. Maestro Silvio Viegas understood the music's dichotomy, and the orchestra did an excellent job, sounding malleable, sensual, and brutal." Salomé, Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Frakin, O Globo 2014
