BIO

Trained in Baroque Singing at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and in Lied and Oratorio at the Zurich Conservatory, Marília Vargas studied with renowned artists such as Montserrat Figueras, Christoph Prégardien and Barbara Bonney. She is a prizewinner at competitions including Bidú Sayão, Maria Callas, and Margherite Meyer.

With an international career, she has performed on major stages such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, Berliner Konzerthaus, Theatre Royal de Versailles, Tonhalle Zürich, Liceo de Barcelona, National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing, Helsinki Music Centre, as well as Brazil’s leading venues, including the Sala São Paulo, Theatro Municipal de São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Theatro da Paz, Theatro Amazonas, and Palácio das Artes.

She has collaborated with renowned ensembles and orchestras such as La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Le Parlement de Musique, Zürcher Kammerorchester, OSESP, Orquestra Ouro Preto, Camerata Antiqua de Curitiba, Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, and Theatro São Pedro, among others.

Her discography includes recordings for European and Brazilian labels and broadcasters, with highlights such as Nossos Espíritos Livres (Concerto Award 2021 – Best CD, Audience Choice) and collaborations with André Mehmari, Luis Otávio Santos, and the Ensemble Gao Shan Liu Shui.

In addition to her work as a soloist in operas and oratorios by Händel, Bach, Pergolesi and Monteverdi, she is committed to promoting the repertoire of women composers through projects such as “Women in Music”. Recent performances include concerts with the China National Opera Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Ouro Preto, and Camerata Antiqua de Curitiba, as well as recitals with André Mehmari.

Marília is also a professor of classical and baroque singing at the EMESP Tom Jobim, and works as a vocal coach and guest conductor with youth and professional choirs across Brazil.
