Jabez Lima
tenor
"Friar Malthus (Jabez Lima) appears like a believer adrift, drowning in his own libido. His crisis of faith is sung with such despair that it borders on the indecent; yet, it is impossible to look away (or turn a deaf ear). Jabez sings as one who flagellates himself, and the result is a dirty, almost sacrilegious beauty. Any opera worth its salt needs a sacrifice, and he offers himself whole."
